More than 500 years in the making*, True Stories of Time Travel is at long last out in the world, traveling through time, second by second like the rest of us.
It’s available on Bandcamp just in time for Bandcamp Friday. You can also watch the official video for the song Time Traveler’s Blues on YouTube. It was directed by Khalil Harrison and the little comic interludes star me, George Washington and Colin Tart, who also let us use his house slash music venue, Flattop Durham.
So Bandcamp Friday. It’s today if you’re reading this on Friday March 6. If you’ll recall from earlier newsletters or if you clicked on that link or just because you’re really smart and you know things, Bandcamp Friday is the day Bandcamp lets artists keep the entire purchase price. It doesn’t take a cut.
You can really help your favorite artists by buying their stuff on Bandcamp Friday, and if one of your favorite artists happens to me be — hey thanks! — you’re helping Project Hope, because that’s who I give the extra dineros to on Bandcamp Fridays. You can listen to the whole EP there before buying it if you want.
* In the song Time Traveler’s Blues — which you can watch the video for on YouTube — I sing about traveling to various times, including the years 1534 and 2100. You probably forgot about that asterisk didn’t you. It’s way up at the top.
The EP’s also on all the streaming services. I won’t judge you. e e
I feel like I’ve been talking about this record for a while and repeating myself a lot, but if you need a reminder, a lot of great local musicians helped me record it. Including:
Mimi Kramer, leader and singer of Supermutt, who sings a duet with me.
Jimmie Ray Swagger and Pumpkin Spice of Jimmie Ray Swagger and the Fussy Eaters, who play guitar and bass on two songs.
Flyin’ Crazy Dave of The Rattletraps and a bunch of other bands, who plays drums on those same two. I’ll be opening for The Rattletraps and John Rodney at my record release show on March 20 at Rubies on Five Points in Durham.
Patsy Sibley, Robin Clayton and Isabel O’Hara Walsh, who are 3/5 of Chicken Ranch Road Show, and play acoustic guitar, electric guitar and fiddle on a country number, with Patsy and Isabel also singing harmony.
Paco Marvelli, who like Flyin’ Crazy Dave is in The Rattletraps and a bunch of other bands, including Paco and the Panhandlers and Autumn House. He plays lap steel on that same song.
Lonnie Rott, a solo artist who usually plays guitar and sings when he’s playing as a solo artist but plays piano here.
Eric Sommer, a solo artist who makes it 2-for-2 playing electric guitar on my records.
Luis Rodriguez of Charles Latham’s Borrowed Band and tons of other bands. He usually plays guitar but he plays trumpet this time.
Danny Grewen of the Danny Grewen Band and, you guessed it, tons of other bands. There is some controversy over whether Danny or Luis play in more bands. At any rate, Danny plays trombone and did the horn arrangement. This EP has horns on it.
James Phillips of Bombadil, who plays drums on one song and recorded the EP at his studio.
I hope you enjoy True Stories of Time Travel!
Thanks for reading and listening and coming on out.
