I time traveled to ancient Egypt and all I got was this EP cover

My second EP, True Stories of Time Travel, will be out March 6 and I thought I’d test out the new newsletter platform by showing you the cover art.

One of the five songs on it is called Time Traveler’s Blues, and one of the things I mention hoping I’ll be able to do if I ever got myself into a time machine is:

I’ll be a California Yankee / In Cleopatra’s court

So there I am. Cleo does not seem to be impressed.

The cover was designed by Ren Weber and me. Everything that’s dumb about it is because of me and everything that’s great about it is down to Ren, model Kiley Williams and photographer Nikky Carrington. The idea is it’s supposed to look like the cover of a pulp sci-fi paperback.

Once the EP is out, if you see it on the streaming services, you won’t see the words Amazing and Alarming because they have dumb rules about words that aren’t part of the artist name or title. That’s why you should follow me on Bandcamp, where you’ll be able to get the EP digitally or in the popular CD format.

The CD will come in a four-panel wallet, and I’ll share the artwork for those panels in the coming weeks.

In the meantime! Some shows:

Friday, Feb. 6 at Sidetrack Bar & Lounge, Chapel Hill: Just me, 7-9:15 pm. That’s this Friday! The snow will be melted by then.

Friday, Feb. 27 at Local 506, Chapel Hill: On the bill for Blood Red River’s 20th Anniversary show with The Malamondos from Greensboro and Chapel Hill’s own Severed Fingers.

Friday, March 20 at Rubies on Five Points, Durham: This will be my record release show! I’ll be on the bill with The Rattletraps, who I believe will also be celebrating a record release, and John Rodney.

I’ve got more shows coming up after that, and will probably be filling in others still, but for a guy who can’t even picture a future beyond the day after tomorrow, that’s enough for now.

So tell me: How did it go?

This is the first newsletter I’m sending out on my new platform, Beehiive. I’m hoping it just showed up in your inbox like always, with no action required on your part. If that’s not the case — or even if it is — please let me know. I’m hoping you can do that by replying to this email. I’m also aware that if you didn’t get this, you won’t see this request. Life is complicated.

Thanks for reading and listening and coming on out.

Your friend,

The King Teen
