II said I'd be back in your inbox before Wednesday's show at Speakeasy Carrboro and I did not lie. Here I am. Hi hello.

I'll be at Speakeasy Carrboro Wednesday night for a show with my pals Vito Dito & Ken Moshesh. Here's a flyer Vito made where I look like me, but a little better.

This show is part of the long-running Wednesday series at Speakeasy. It starts at 7 and there's no cover. Ken Moshesh is a percussionist who played in the Sun Ra Arkestra. Vito made an EP of reimagined spirituals with Ken called Space Ways Spirituals With Ken Moshesh, which you can get at that Bandcamp link or on streaming.

They’ve been playing together for a while. It’s a fabulous blending of styles. And watching and listening to Ken play the congas is a musical education that doesn’t feel like school.

Also I have a new song that's about you so you might want to hear it.

What I did on my holiday weekend

I don’t have a job so I’m like

but I’ll tell you about it anyway. I was in a box. Not your inbox, where I am now, but a shipping container, repurposed as a stage at Boxyard RTP, which if you’re not in the Triangle stands for Research Triangle Park, an area that I guess is technically in Durham but is a massive industrial park kind of area with lots of low-slung offices where who knows what happens. Have you seen Severance it's like that.

If you ARE in the Triangle it stands for Rockin Taco Place, or at least it does for me because one of the old boxes that make up Boxyard is home to La Taqueria, where twice recently I've had really good quesadillas. I can't speak for the tacos but I know how I'd bet this is an unpaid endorsement.

Saturday it was home — Boxyard generally, not La Taqueria — to the Third Angle Poets Harvest Picnic Playground, which was music by Kitt Ramble and me and some youthful North Carolinians from YouthRockNC and some poets plus an open mic that had both music and poetry.

I'd have been happy if I got to play a few songs and eat a quesadilla and everybody else was just kinda boring but I kid you not, every single person who stood onstage was great. I've never seen anything like it. Props to Third Angle Poets and to my friends from the Tongue & Groove open mic — second Sunday of the month at ArtSpace in Raleigh — who helped organize and host.

Here's a little bit of me playin' the hits.

And here's everybody. See if you can spot The King Teen.

That’s Tongue & Groove host Anna Weaver front and center. The guy with the guitar won it in a raffle.

Thanks for reading and listening and coming on out.

Your friend,

The King Teen
